TV and magazines are full of all the latest craze in diets all claiming to be the next big thing, but how many of them will actually help you lose weight?
One of the popular diets that seems to make a lot of sense to us is the Paleo diet. The underlying theory of this eating plan is that you can only eat things that people from the Palaeolithic era would have had available to them. This consists of lots of meat, vegetables, fruits and nuts and disallows processed foods that were not around in those times – for example bread, wheat and grains.
Some people like to fully embrace this idea and decide to start growing some of their own food items at home. Even those of us without gardening skills can quite easily grow a number of fruits and vegetables with some success, for example root vegetables and homegrown tomatoes are a popular choice.
There are plenty of resources online that can help you understand the Paleo Diet in much more detail, so if you ‘d like to read more on this please this site.
The Paleo diet is a great way for many people to lose weight, but it isn’t by any means a one-fits-all solution there are ways to make smaller changes that can still make a difference.
By no means do you absolutely have to cut everything that you enjoy out of your diet. Just make some modifications to what you consume. Do you know how much saturated fat is in the average tall cappuccino from your local coffee shop for example? 20 % of your recommended intake of saturated fat comes from this one beverage! And if you add sugar, then there’s around 10 % of your total calories for the day too.
Buying a new espresso machine for your home and grabbing a cup before you leave home lets you control exactly what you put into your morning coffee making it much more healthy. You can completely eliminate the fat content of your coffee if you use non-fat milk and you’ll also be cutting the calorie content in half.
Another great way to eat a little more healthily is by investing in a toaster oven allowing you to make delicious healthy versions of your favorite toasted sandwich that you have for lunch and your main meals can also benefit from the same treatment. Substitute some of the more unhealthy ingredients for a lighter alternative – for example wholemeal bread or low-fat cheese instead of their more unhealthy counterparts.
Did you know that your home ice cream machine can even be used to make healthy treats? Sorbets and frozen yoghurt is a feature of many of the best ice cream makers. When you’re just using fruits as the main ingredient it is bound to be healthy – and the flavor will still be great.
The secret behind any of this is to look at what might work for you and just give it a go. No diet plan is set in stone, so if you need to change something up a little then don’t worry. Just make sure that you are staying healthy by consulting a health professional before you start.
